Road open to local traffic

UPDATE:

Earlier today, county crews were able to get the log jam removed at 25 Mile Creek, resulting in the water going back into its channel. The crew also repaired the shoulder damage caused by the water.

South Lakeshore Road, after milepost 16, is open to local traffic only. It will remain signed for local traffic only through the weekend because of the anticipated rains for this evening and overnight. Crews will be back out in the morning to assess the rain and snowmelt impacts to the Shady Pass basin.

As a reminder, if you live near a creek or river, be prepared for potentially high waters over the weekend. Know your evacuation routes and have supplies on hand if rising waters block those routes. Never drive in water that is covering a roadway.

ORIGINAL: From Chelan County Public Works - Thursday, May 4

South Lakeshore Road is closed at milepost 16, which is just after Hale Road on Lake Chelan. With the closure, Shady Pass Road is also closed. Water from 25 Mile Creek, near the state park, is over the roadway, making the road impassable. Motorists are reminded to never drive in water.

Residents living above the closure should call 911 if they have an emergency. Residents are advised the road is not passable at this time.

Chelan Couny Public Works is assessing the situation to determine if they can remove a log jam near the state park.
