CHELAN — A 22-year-old man was taken to Lake Chelan Hospital late in the night on Friday, Jan 23 after being wounded in a shooting in downtown Chelan, according to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the 100 block of East Woodin Avenue at about 11:54 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, witnesses told deputies they had seen several people fleeing the area on foot.

A 22-year-old man was found on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. Chelan EMS provided medical care at the scene before transporting him to Lake Chelan Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

As part of the investigation, deputies located a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting near Riverwalk Park. An 18-year-old male passenger ran from the vehicle but was located a short time later on Woodin Avenue and taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center and is facing charges of first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.

The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing but that there is no reason to believe there is any continuing threat to the public.
