Posted

WENATCHEE — The Chelan County Auditor's Office is looking for volunteers to write an "Against" committee statement for the Local Voters' Pamphlet, which will be distributed for the General Election on November 4.

Committee members are needed for the Lake Chelan School District No. 129 bond measure in the November election which the school board unanimously voted to approve on June 9. At issue is a $73 million bond that would The proposal includes plans to replace Morgen Owings Elementary and integrate preschool classrooms into the new facility. Additionally, it aims to update trades programs at Chelan Middle and High School, and implement various upgrades to athletic and fitness infrastructure.

According to Revised Code of Washington 29A.32.280, the responsibility for appointing committees to write arguments both for and against each ballot measure typically falls to the districts proposing the measures. However, if a district fails to appoint such a committee, the County Auditor is then tasked with finding individuals to serve.

As is customary during every election season, the Local Voters' Pamphlet will feature official ballot titles, explanatory statements, and arguments "for" and "against" each measure, along with rebuttals.

To be eligible to draft an argument, committee members must reside within the relevant district. Additionally, at least one member must agree to have their name published in the voters' pamphlet as a committee member.

Committee member names and arguments must be submitted to the Auditor's Office by 5:00 p.m. on August 15. Submissions can be made via email to auditor@co.chelan.wa.us or by calling the Auditor's office at (509) 667-6808 to arrange for form drop-off.

For detailed information on the required submission materials for committee members, please refer to the document titled "Ballot Measure Submission and Local Voters’ Pamphlet Deadlines for Jurisdictions," which can be found under "Jurisdiction Resources" on their website at Elections.ChelanCountyWA.gov.
