Chelan High School Golf - May 11 - May 13

Posted
SOAP LAKE - The Chelan girls traveled to the Lakeview Golf & Country Club Tuesday, May 11 for their season culminating event with all the North Central Region teams (B schools through 4A).  Of the 7 teams represented by enough girls (4) for a team score, the Chelan girls came in at a respectable 4th place behind Wenatchee, Eastmont, and Quincy.  Playing with only 4 girls and without one of our top two girls, the girls turned in a decent score (508) and with 2 freshmen and a sophomore returning, we look forward to lots of progress and better team scores next season!
On a new course for our girls, and extra challenging due to the extensive out-of-bounds markers on nearly every hole, our best scorer for the day was sophomore Malie Benson who came in tied for 18th (?) with a 122, a season best for her, followed by freshman Arabelle Finch (124), senior and first year player Lana Fielding (128) and freshman Kassidy Wilfong (134).
The boys will finish their season up tomorrow (Thursday, May 13) with their own Regional Championship also to be held at Lakeview Golf & Country Club.
May 13
On a beautiful day for golf (or anything else), the Chelan Boys Golf Team participated in the first-ever (?) Regional Championships at Lakeview Golf & Country Club with all local North Central Region golf teams participating (B schools through 4A).  Of the 8 teams that had enough for a team score, Chelan came in 4th, following 2A Ephrata (321), 4A Wenatchee (355), and 4A Eastmont (371) with a team of players that had never seen this challenging course before.
Individually, Ephrata senior Jacob Rawley took medalist honors with an even-par 72, followed by Chelan senior Miles Grossberg with a 4-over 76.  Miles had one bad hole that made the difference in the scores between these two, who battled the whole way.  After Miles’ early mishap, he settled down, shot a 3-under par on the back 9, but was unable to overcome the early deficit.  As a whole, the team did quite well for being on a new course, and I’m very proud of the results they posted.  I’m especially proud of the “bonus” we got from having senior JD Gonzalez able to participate and contribute after what could have been (should have been?) a non-season for him.
This ends our golf season, and I thank you for reading these reports and giving all of our players your support.
