Dec. 9-10
GRANGER - The Goats traveled to Granger High School for the Tony Saldivar Memorial Ironman Wrestling Tournament.
Chelan wrestling had a good weekend wrestling a high level of competition. In the 20 team tournament. Chelan finished in the middle of the pack while missing seven wrestling and pulling two wrestlers out due to injury/illness.
Chelan boys and girls came home with four more medals and a ton of knowledge. Something that has been a trend with this team is their ability to continue fighting.
Sebastian Cisneros lost in overtime his very first match only to come back and win 5 straight before going for third and fourth. Tiernan Davis also fought back and wrestled several great matches. On the girls side, Amiee Gordon also lost her first, but wrestled back to take fifth.
Results:
Girls:140 – Junior, Amiee Gordon 3-2 fifth place
120 – Freshman, Sebastian Cisneros 5-2, only losing to Champion in OT and third place. Sebastian secured a fourth place medal.
138 – Junior, Mason Gates 1-2
145 – Junior, Dana Malone 1-0 Injury Default
160 – Freshman, Zimri Kelling 1-2
170 – Senior, Tiernan Davis 3-2, only losing to Champion and third place. Tiernan secured a fifth place medal.
195 – Freshman, Hextor Herrera 0-2
220 – Freshman, Caesar Padilla 1-2
220 – Senior, Jason Pritchard 1-2, secured a fourth place medal.
285 – Senior, Alonso Benegas 1-0, illness kept him out of second day.
“The way we fight back in the consolation bracket shows me that these wrestlers will fight through anything. We have a tough young team and I am excited for the rest of this season and future seasons,”  said head coach Zach Linton
The girls will be wrestled again at the Quincy mix-N-match on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Then the Chelan Varsity lineup will compete in their first district double dual of the year against Quincy and Cascade on Thursday, Dec. 15 at Cascade Leavenworth at 6 p.m.

CHS Boys Basketball

Chelan 69 vs Quincy 63
Dec. 6
CHELAN - In the league opener for both teams, Chelan got 23 points from Dylan Jay, 19 from Braiden Boyd, and 13 from Isaac Wilson.
Chelan built a 16 point half time lead but were short-handed once again as Braiden Boyd fouled out and starters Dylan Jay and Jacob Allen were forced to the bench with four fouls early in the second half.
Chelan was also without starter Ian Garfoot due to illness.
Head Coach Tony Callero was pleased with point guard Isaac Wilson’s leadership, Ryan Rainville’s rebounding, and Kellen Reinhardt’s defense on 6-6 Aidan Bews.
“It was great once again to see some clutch play from off the bench. Austin McCardle had a crucial offensive rebound put back basket with 15 seconds to go that sealed the win.”
Quincy was able to get back in the game behind 28 points from junior Julian Ibarra, the transfer from Omak High School,  and freshman shooting guard Pierce Bierlink who is the son of Quincy  head coach Scott Bierlink.

Chelan 80 vs. Cascade 55
Dec. 8
The Chelan boys basketball team moved to 2-0 on CTL play by beating Cascade 80-55. Chelan improves to 3-1 overall and is scheduled for a non-league game Saturday at Royal High School. (cancelled due to weather)
For the Goats, Dylan Jay scored 30, Braiden Boyd added 20 and Isaac Wilson had nine. Senior Kastn Dillion scored 21 to lead Cascade.
Chelan could not get on track shooting wise in the first half and found themselves tied at 35 at halftime. Chelan and Cascade traded baskets to start the second half but then the Goats turned up the defensive pressure and finished the third quarter with a 13-2 burst to grab a 58-44 lead heading to the fourth.
The Goats began the fourth quarter remarkably fast. They forced five turnovers on the first six Cascade possessions and went on a 12-0 run to build a 26 point lead and never looked back.
Head coach Tony Callero loved the second half burst.
“They have two players that are very hard to guard in Lewman and Dillon so a 25-2 run to end the third and start the fourth is a great credit to the way the boys began to help and rotate defensively.”

Chelan 44 vs. Quincy 48
Dec. 6
CHELAN - The Quincy Jackrabbits made their way to Chelan last night to face off in the first league match up for the Mt. Goats this season. The Goats, who are finally eligible and healthy as a team, were excited for the first league game out. The Goats struggled to defend the perimeter in the first quarter allowing three point shooting to prevail for the Jackrabbits who put up 13 points. The Goats found success inside getting the ball to Juliana Perez who had 6 in the first quarter. The Goats found themselves trailing going into the second quarter 8-13. The Goats were again outscored 8 to 9 in the second quarter which left the Goats trailing 22-16 at half.
The Goats came out aggressive in the second half and outscored Quincy 11-8 in the third quarter as they trailed by three going into the final quarter. The Goats again outscored Quincy 13-10 which left the score tied when time expired. The Goats had an opportunity with technical foul enforced on the opposing coach that sent Senior Joslynn Simmons to the line who knocked down to clutch free throws with 30 seconds left in regulation. The Goats also had possession leading by two. Unfortunately the Goats turned the ball over on an half court violation which set up the Jackrabbits to isolate the post in a sideline out of bounds play that tied up the game at 40 a piece.
In overtime the Goats fell behind early and struggled to regain control of the game. Unfortunately it was the struggle from the stripe that prevented the Goats from sealing the game. In the last three games the Goats have shot 18 for 64 from the free throw line which has hamstrung the Goats this season so far.
The Goats played much better tonight than what they have showcased the past two games and have a lot of room for growth as they have three days to regroup before their next non-conference match up against the Royal Knights this Saturday at Royal.  (Game cancelled due to weather)
The Goats were led in scoring by senior Juliana Perez with 16 points followed by Freshman Brynn Hughbanks with 9. Arabelle Finch added 8, Joslynn Simmons had 7 and Kira Sandoval added 4.
