Chelan Museum closed through February, will reopen March 5

Posted

CHELAN — The Chelan Museum, a cornerstone of downtown history and culture, is temporarily closed while volunteers work on projects throughout January and February. The museum is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, March 5, and will resume its regular hours Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. once it opens for the season.

Located at 204 E. Woodin Avenue in the heart of historic downtown Chelan, the museum is operated by the Lake Chelan Historical Society and serves as a historical and cultural center for the Lake Chelan Valley. Housed in a historic 1907 building that once hosted the Miners & Merchants Bank, the museum offers visitors a window into the region’s past, from Native American heritage to early settlement and pioneer life.

Visitors who have enjoyed the museum in past seasons say it strikes a balance between local memory and broader Northwest history, with displays that include artifacts and memorabilia of local life, early household and work tools, photographs, and archival materials. Docents and volunteers are known to share stories that make the exhibits come alive for both residents and visitors.

Though the museum’s doors will be closed over the next several weeks, the temporary closure presents an opportunity for volunteers to work on behind-the-scenes projects that help preserve and interpret Chelan’s heritage.

The building’s location amid the city’s charming streetscape makes it an inviting stop for anyone enjoying downtown’s shops, eateries, and scenic views of the lake and valley. When it reopens in March, the museum looks to once again welcome visitors eager to explore the rich and varied history of the Lake Chelan area.
