CHELAN FALLS — Visitors to Chelan Falls Park may notice heavy equipment and construction activity along the Columbia River shoreline over the next two months as Chelan County PUD begins a riverbank stabilization project.
Crews started work this week on a plan to rehabilitate about 417 feet of riverbank with native plants, river cobble, and a designated river access point. The project is intended to slow erosion caused by changing river flows, waves, and recreation along the river.
Short-term impacts to the public are expected to be limited. Sport courts, restrooms, the boat launch, and other day-use facilities will remain open and accessible through the south parking lot. The north lot, however, will be closed to accommodate heavy equipment and construction materials. Shoreline access will be restricted until the work is complete.
Construction hours are scheduled Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The project is expected to wrap up by December, with planting to continue in the spring.
