CHELAN — Chelan musician and graduating senior David Kelly earned top marks at the WIAA/WMEA State Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, April 26.
The prestigious event, hosted at Central Washington University, brought together the best young musicians from across the state.
Performing the Marcello Oboe Concerto, accompanied by pianist John Duff and coached by Lori Laughlin and Stephen Burdick, Kelley delivered an outstanding performance that placed him in the top third of his category (20+ Oboe Soloists)—an impressive accomplishment in a competition known for its high level of excellence.
“We’re incredibly proud of David and the hard work he’s put into his music,” Chelan Superintendent Brad Wilson said. “He represented Chelan with dedication, poise, and true musicality.”
The WIAA/WMEA State Solo and Ensemble Contest is an annual event that highlights the most accomplished high school soloists and small ensembles in Washington. Musicians must qualify at regional competitions to earn a spot at state.
