Chelan’s “All Student Parade” ends in pep rally and Spirit of Chelan honors

Posted

CHELAN — Chelan’s All-Student Parade poured K–12 energy into downtown on a blue-sky afternoon, and the celebration wrapped with a pep rally at Riverwalk Pavilion, where Chelan High School Principal Jamie Pancho thanked first responders, city staff, and the many parents and volunteers who helped move hundreds of students safely through the route. He then turned to the main event — the announcement of this year’s “Spirit of Chelan” honorees — and asked recipients to step forward as he read what nominators said were their greatest qualities.

For Morgan Owings Elementary (MOE), kindergartner Evelyn Snyder was praised for including others in both work and play, even organizing fun activities for friends. First-grader Rudy Ward shows up in themed costumes with his family and is a regular in the stands cheering on the Goats. Second-grader Adrian Valdez brings big spirit to class, from dressing up on spirit days to helping on the playground. Third-grader Eveth Lopez Villa is pushing herself academically while learning English, speaking up with questions and helping classmates. Fourth-grader Roslyn Smith has been a mini-Goat cheerleader since she was little and is known for kindness and a willingness to help. Fifth-grader Miguel Saucedo was described as motivated, respectful, and engaged — the kind of student who lifts up peers and competes in multiple youth sports. MOE’s staff honoree is Amber Corrigan, recognized for constant support at school events, beautification work on campus, and an all-around “old Goat through and through” spirit.

At Chelan Middle School (CMS), sixth-grader Charlie Rogers volunteers as a high-school volleyball manager, shows up for early practices, and brings a smile to class every day. Seventh-grader Kai Froman dresses up for Spirit Week, balances sports with strong grades, and serves as a role model for others. Eighth-grader Levi Simmons earned shout-outs for the best kind of school pride: Enthusiastic, positive, and contagious. CMS’s staff honoree is Jamie Mack, who leads student leadership, “wears many hats,” and keeps the school feeling fun and welcoming.

Chelan High School (CHS) recipients included freshman Krista Carlton, celebrated for giving her best whether on the varsity soccer pitch or dancing in Spanish class. Sophomore Adriana Franco shows tremendous spirit, stays involved, and “makes everyone else smile.” Junior Josue Garcia Luz drew praise as a hard-working, high-character student. Senior Luca Faletto has made a point of inviting younger students into the fold — to games, dress-up days, and class activities — and is known as a steady, respectful leader at pep assemblies and around campus.

Two CHS staff members were also honored. Liz Martinez, who Pancho said was “filling big shoes,” is known for answering questions with a smile and finding time for others no matter how busy the day gets. Dia Galvan was recognized as a quiet, indispensable advocate for migrant students, from FAFSA help to interpreting at conferences and connecting families with support.

Assistant Principal Scott Granger was on hand to pass out shirts as recipients gathered for a group photo, and Pancho closed by recognizing Miss Lake Chelan titleholders Daniella Ochoa Bernal and Alexa Padilla for representing the valley throughout a busy parade season.

Congratulations to all of this year’s Spirit of Chelan honorees — students and staff who keep “motivated, open-minded, respectful, and engaged” more than a slogan, but a daily habit.
