Posted

Oct. 20
The Goats traveled down to Leavenworth to take on the Cascade Kodiaks.  All day there was a possibility of the game not happening due to air quality. Fortunately, the smoke finally cleared enough for the game to take place.
In the first minute of play the Goats were on the attack. The Goats came out strong and Senior Olga Filipovic was able to take a shot with her left foot and place it past the keeper giving them the lead. Playing with the lead the Goats knew they would need to continue to battle the rest of the match.  Unfortunately, the Kodiaks would sneak a ball into the back of the net in the 59th minute of play.
Playing with the tie, the Goats continued to battle the entire time.  When regulation ended with a 1-1 tie, there were two five-minute golden-goal overtimes.  At the end of the overtime the game was still tied 1-1.  With the tie it meant the game would go to penalty kicks where both teams pick their top five shooters to try and win the game.
The Goats would shoot first, followed by the Kodiaks. The Goats shooters were Senior Olga Filipovic, Junior Jailyn Reinhart, Junior Maya Cowan, Senior Macie Cowan, and Senior Joslynn Simmons.  The Goats had a rough start to PK’s missing the first one. The Kodiaks would go ahead on their first shot. However, the Goats would be perfect with their final 4 shots. Freshman Avari Barker stopped the third shot from the Kodiaks giving the Goats the chance to go ahead.  With the Goats making their final shot it was down to the Kodiaks final shooter to tie the game back up. Barker came up big with the final save pushing it off the cross bar giving the Goats the win. The Goats are now 4-3 in league and 8-6-1 overall.  The Goats finish off their regular season on Tuesday, October 25 vs. the Omak Pioneers for Senior night.  The eight Goats Seniors will be honored following the game on Tuesday, kick off is at 4 p.m.

Goats top Trojans 7-0 in cross town match
Oct 18
Tonight, the Goats were host to cross town rivals Manson Trojans in battle of the lake.  The Goats would come out hard in the first 10 minutes of the game and find the back of the net quickly. Junior Maya Cowan would find her sister Macie Cowan across the face of the goal with a cross to a volley into the back of the net.  Twelve minutes later Macie Cowan would again find the back of the net with a ball she would take through multiple defenders. The third goal of the match was scored by Senior Kenia Sanchez with a tap through from Maya Cowan. Sanchez was able to get by two defenders to finish the ball.
Going into the second half the Goats knew they were going to need to pick up the speed of play in order to score more goals. With the game being a non-conference, the Goats were also able to play younger players in different positions, as well as give others some breaks.  The fourth goal of the game with a first for Senior Joslynn Simmons.  Simmons who is usually keeping the Goats defense tight was given the opportunity to move into the midfield.  She was able to take a few Manson players on and score her first goal of her high school career.
Following the fourth goal, the Goats were credited with two more goals which were technically considered own goals as they deflected off of Manson and into the back of the net.  Junior Jailyn Reinhart and Junior Maya Cowan were both credited with an assist in one of each. The final goal of the match came after a medical emergency, which delayed the game for twenty minutes. The Goats were able to bounce back and Senior Irene Hernandez was able to beat a few players and finish off scoring for the Goats for the evening.
The Trojans worked hard and showed the Goats many things they need to work on. On Tuesday, Oct. 25 the Goats had their final home game of the regular season. They honored their eight seniors as they played Omak.
