Historic Manson launches Heritage Storytelling series

Posted

MANSON — The Historic Manson Main Street Association has released the first story in a new series highlighting the community's history through recently installed Heritage Storytelling Panels in downtown Manson.

The inaugural story, titled "Traditions," was released June 18 and coincides with preparations for the Lake Chelan Valley's annual Fourth of July fireworks show over Manson Bay. Organizers noted the fireworks celebration is now in its 47th year and has become a longstanding tradition for residents and visitors throughout the valley.

The Heritage Storytelling Panels were installed along downtown light poles as part of an effort to share Manson's history with residents and visitors. The 16 panels, constructed of Corten steel and aluminum, tell a chronological story beginning with the area's earliest history and continuing through the development of the community.

According to Historic Manson Main Street Association, the project was developed using information gathered from local residents, the Lake Chelan Museum, published historical sources and consultation with the Traditional Territories Advisor for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.

The organization plans to release one story each week through Oct. 5, corresponding with a fundraising campaign supporting the project and Historic Manson's ongoing work.

The storytelling panels are intended to serve as both a visual enhancement to downtown and an educational resource that helps preserve and share Manson's history with future generations.

Additional information about the Heritage Storytelling Panels, the fundraising campaign and other Historic Manson Main Street Association projects is available at HistoricManson.org.
