CHELAN — The Lake Chelan Men's Golf Association has concluded its annual President's Cup Match Play Tournament for 2024, with John Hancock named as champion.

The tournament, which ran from July through October, involved 32 members competing in a double elimination hole-by-hole match play format. Hancock, a retired bakery owner, won by defeating Bicycle Bob Tomsett, a retired electronics engineer, in two consecutive matches described as highly competitive.

All six top finishers in this year's tournament were retirees. Cliff House, a former deputy fire chief, placed third, while Jim Wisdom, a former water treatment plant operator, took fourth. Club President Bob Navin, a retired general contractor, and Mike Talley, a former auto mechanic shop owner, shared fifth and sixth places.

The Lake Chelan Men's Golf Association, founded in 1954, has over 100 members. The group plays on Wednesday and Sunday mornings at the Chelan Golf Course. They also host the Annual Apple Cup Golf Tournament on the third weekend of July each year.

Proceeds from the Apple Cup Tournament and related fundraising efforts fund college scholarships for Chelan and Manson High School students, support the Chelan and Manson High School boys and girls golf teams, and contribute to the local Chelan Food Bank.
