CHELAN — The Lake Chelan Men’s Golf Club Association has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 10 graduating seniors from Chelan and Manson high schools, continuing the organization’s longstanding support of local students and education.

Recipients were announced June 2 during senior awards ceremonies at each school.

Scholarship applicants were evaluated on academic achievement, community service, participation in athletics, leadership, extracurricular activities and letters of recommendation. Applicants also submitted essays responding to a quote from Hall of Fame golfer Bobby Jones about overcoming challenges and adapting to circumstances.

“The students essays provided some insight into who the students are and the challenges they have experienced. We were sincerely moved by the genuine and thoughtful responses!” said Doug Rowand, a member of the scholarship review committee.

More than 30 students applied for the scholarships. A committee of Men’s Club members reviewed applications and selected recipients based on their academic performance, athletic participation and personal achievements.

According to the association, the selection process was highly competitive because of the strength of the applicant pool. Committee members said many applicants demonstrated qualities associated with the game of golf, including patience, persistence, respect, honesty, grit and integrity.

Recipients from Chelan High School are Avari Baker, Joseline Bueno-Dominquez, Carson Clinton, Luca Falletto and Lydia Ware.

Recipients from Manson High School are Brian Crist, Kayden Koth, Casey Pacheco Munoz, Gerardo Villasenor-Anaya and Isabella Wisdom.

The Lake Chelan Men’s Golf Club Association congratulated the scholarship recipients and all students who applied for the awards.
