CHELAN – The Lake Chelan Research Institute will be hosting a special presentation, New Bathymetric Data for Lake Chelan: Icebergs, Landslides and Earthquakes on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
With the U.S. Geological Survey, the presentation will be given by Boe Derosier and Brian Sherrod. and will address sediment cores and preliminary sub-bottom and bathymetric data collected from Lake Chelan.
According to the National Ocean Service: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, “Bathymetry is the study of the ‘beds’ or ‘floors’ of water bodies, including the ocean, rivers, streams, and lakes.”
This data will aid researchers in understanding past environmental changes to the Lake Chelan Watershed, the presence of underwater landslides, waning glaciation phases, as well as historic and future Pacific Northwest earthquakes.
The presentation is free of charge and will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Ruby Theater located at 135 E. Woodin Ave., Chelan. For more information contact Executive Director at Lake Chelan Research Institute, Phil Long, at: phillong@nwi.net.
