MANSON — The Wilkinson-Beeman American Legion Post 108 continued its long-standing tradition of community service in 2025, distributing financial support to programs serving veterans, seniors, families, and youth throughout the Chelan Valley. The Post, guided by the American Legion’s four pillars—Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth—operates with an annual giving budget of $4,000.
On Nov. 7, Post member George Rohrich presented a $1,000 donation to the Lake Chelan Food Bank. The contribution was received by Director Richard Springer, who noted the growing need for assistance during the season.
“As food insecurity continues to rise, the need in our valley grows more urgent,” Springer said. “We are deeply grateful to the American Legion for standing with us. Your generosity helps ensure no neighbor goes without, and reminds us all what community truly means.”
The Food Bank, located in Chelan, provides client-choice services and emphasizes dignity for those seeking assistance.
On Nov. 12, Post Adjutant Carole Hanson delivered a $1,000 contribution to the Chelan Valley Community Nurse program. The donation was accepted by representative Catharine Morehead.
“On behalf of our staff, volunteers, and Board, we extend heartfelt thanks to the American Legion for your continued support,” Morehead said. “Your generosity uplifts our mission and strengthens our community.”
The program focuses on helping elderly residents remain safely in their homes by providing free health screenings, education, and support through regular visits from a registered nurse.
The Post also contributed to the Manson Volunteer Firefighters Association’s Season of Hope program. On Nov. 7, Vice Commander Brian Strausbaugh presented a $1,000 check to Association President Doug Penski.
“We thank the Manson American Legion for their continued support of Season of Hope,” Penski said. “This gift will make a huge difference for 2025.”
The program provides holiday gift cards, emergency assistance, and outreach to families in need.
On Nov. 9, Chaplain John Swenson presented a $500 donation to Tender Loving Care (TLC), an organization supporting seniors seeking to live independently. Director Claudia Swenson accepted the contribution.
“Thank you for the generous contribution of $500 this year, and for your continued support throughout our eight years of serving Chelan/Manson area seniors,” she said. “We’ve had the honor of helping two World War II veterans, and several others from the Korean and Vietnam eras.”
TLC’s volunteers assist 40–50 seniors each month with transportation, companionship, and individualized support.
Post 108 also backed the Quilts of Valor Foundation’s Chelan Group. At a recent meeting, member Robin Bloch presented a $325 donation to representatives Sue Freden and Tracy Shaw.
“We would like to thank the Manson American Legion for their support and generous donation to help us make quilts for our veterans,” Freden said. “We look forward to working with you in the coming year to identify service members to receive these honor quilts.”
The quilts are handmade by volunteers and presented to veterans in recognition of their service.
In addition to its larger contributions, the Post budgeted $175 for Manson Parks and Recreation to support youth sports teams.
The Manson American Legion Post 108 meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Manson Parks building. For more information, contact Post Service Officer Norm Manly at 509-293-0225.
