Manson Chamber welcomes new executive director

Posted

MANSON — Mary Lynn Thompson assumed the role of executive director of the Manson Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 1, 2026, succeeding Timi Starkweather, who has transitioned to the Chamber’s Board of Directors as director of community outreach.

The Manson Chamber of Commerce, a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening the local business environment and community, operated under volunteer leadership for much of its history. That changed in 2015 with the hiring of its first executive director, Debbie Conwell.

“I’m truly honored and excited to step into this important role,” Thompson said. “I know there will be challenges along the way, there will also be many rewards as we work together to support our business community. My hope is that, by the end of my tenure, the Manson Chamber of Commerce will have grown stronger, expanded its impact, and be firmly positioned for many successful years ahead.”

Thompson brings a background in marketing, event leadership and strategic partnerships, with experience developing programs and relationships aimed at supporting businesses and community organizations. She has worked on a wide range of community, corporate and large-scale public events throughout her career.

Her early work with Nancy Welts Productions included Seattle’s Downtown 3-On-3 Tournament, the Sonics Championship Reunion, regional boat and auto shows, and Seahawks golf tournaments. She later held roles at Group Health Cooperative, where she created Community Health Forums, and at Windermere Real Estate, producing internal events such as agent symposiums, owners retreats and milestone celebrations.

Among her professional experiences, Thompson cites her involvement in the evolution of the Windermere Cup Regatta and Seattle’s Opening Day of Boating Season as particularly meaningful. By introducing new programming — including the Media Cup Charity Challenge, Shore Party and Party on the Cut — along with family activities, food vendors, spectator giveaways and athlete awards, she helped expand the event’s reach and national reputation.

As executive director, Thompson said her goals for 2026 focus on strengthening Chamber events, supporting members and celebrating Manson’s community identity.

“As Executive Director, my goals for 2026 center on strengthening our events, supporting our members, and celebrating the spirit of Manson,” she said.

Priorities include reviewing the Chamber’s annual events calendar, stakeholder relationships and budgets to ensure resources align with its mission. Fundraising will remain critical, along with expanding the Chamber’s presence at local events and incorporating more family-friendly elements, she said.

Thompson also identified membership communication and support as key focus areas, noting the need to better understand member priorities and provide accessible marketing tools for small businesses.

“Manson is a truly magical place,” Thompson said. “Its natural beauty is undeniable, but its heart lies in the stories, traditions, and people who shape it.”

She added that her goal is to strengthen community pride through educational efforts highlighting the area’s history, landscape and local businesses.

“Manson continues to grow, with new businesses and new families choosing to put down roots here,” Thompson said. “Our new board is dedicated to building on the legacy of past Chamber leaders while bringing forward fresh ideas and strategies that will strengthen long-term economic vitality for the entire community.”

Starkweather, who recently retired from the executive director role, welcomed Thompson’s appointment.

“It brings me great joy to welcome Mary Lynn Thompson as the new Executive Director, following my recent retirement from the role,” Starkweather said. “She is exactly the kind of leader who will carry the Manson Chamber of Commerce forward.

“The Chamber’s foundation is strong and its direction is clear, and Mary Lynn’s experience in marketing and events will help our momentum continue to grow,” Starkweather said. “With a refreshed and enthusiastic Board of Directors, I’m confident the coming year will bring new opportunities, meaningful accomplishments, and a vibrant future for Manson.”

Community members are encouraged to visit the Chamber office during regular business hours. More information about the Manson Chamber of Commerce and membership opportunities is available at www.mansonchamber.com or by contacting Thompson at director@mansonchamber.com.
