Summary: Southeast WA Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the Moe Canyon fire at 6:00AM August 05, 2021. The fire was reported at 6PM August 03. Initial attack was carried out by crews from WA DNR and USFS supported by aircraft. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain 10 miles NW of Entiat WA.
Yesterday: Hand crews and dozers worked to build containment line along the west flank of the fire and along a ridgeline to the north and northeast of the fire, while air support was provided by scoopers, fire bosses, helicopters, and retardant drops from fixed wing aircraft. One fire fighter sustained a knee injury: due to the steep, rugged terrain, suppression activity was suspended while the injured fire fighter was extracted.
Today: Hand crews and dozers will work to construct containment line and improve existing lines. Engine crews will work to establish hose lays to provide water to aid in suppression activity. A cold front is forecast today and is expected to bring strong, gusty winds to the fire area. Resources assigned will closely monitor weather and respond appropriately to ensure firefighter and public safety. Additional resources including engines, hand crews, and tenders have been ordered.
Closures: Forest Service Road (Moe Ridge) and 5810310
Cooperators: WA DNR, USFS, Chelan County Fire District 8.
