Mountain Goats wrestling: Hope to fight for district champship

Posted

Tiernan Davis is our returning Senior who made it past districts and to the regional tournament last year.
Notable newcomers:
Chelan Wrestling has come back stronger than ever with 27 athletes at our first practice. Three new girls joined our team putting us at five girls total. Eleven Freshman join our squad making us a young team who have a lot to build off of for the future. Along with a huge Freshman class, we have several upperclassmen joining us who have excelled in other sports and are ready to put their stamp in Chelan Wrestling.
One of the most notable Newcomers is senior Alonso Benegas. Alonso made it to the State Championship his Freshman year but missed opportunities to wrestle soon after due to COVID-19. We are excited to get Alonso back in the room along with our other athletes and huge Freshman class.
Notable player losses from last year:
Chelan Wrestling only lost one senior last year and plan to build bigger and bigger.
General Season Outlook
Chelan wrestling has come out strong this year with their numbers. If this trend continues inside the practice room there will be a lot of wins this year. We hope to fight for the district championship and then some.
The past few years have been rough for Chelan Wrestling and all sports around the nation fighting throughCOVID-19. But with adversity comes the opportunity to grow stronger and better. Last year was the start of a rebuild and this year we have the numbers to prove it. I am very optimistic about this group of athletes and believe we can do something special this year. We have almost every weight-class filled and are competitive in the wrestling room already. With enough focus and determination I believe this team can win a district championship and possibly more.
New Assisant Coach: Travis Domser
Travis will be a huge asset for Chelan Wrestling this year. He has already been very useful in encouraging athletes to join the team along with helping in the wrestling room. He is very good at motivating students and will always be there for students who need help throughout the school year. His classroom is always open for students if they need anything.
New Volunteer Coach: Erick Garcia
Erick is a Chelan High Alumni who did very well in his wrestling career capturing a state title in 2013. Erick then went on to wrestle in college at Highline University. We are very excited for Erick to be coming into the room and spreading his wealth of knowledge to these kids.
