CHELAN – The Lake Chelan Health & Wellness Foundation has awarded a $1,500 grant to the North Cascades Sportsman's Club to help purchase an automated external defibrillator for the club's remote shooting range.
The North Cascades Sportsman's Club, located up Washington Creek, has served the community for many years. The club has more than 500 members and welcomes more than 700 guests annually. It offers trap, skeet, rifle and pistol ranges, as well as an FFA-sponsored gun club at the local high school led by adviser Randy Gleasman.
"Last fall the members of the sportsman's club put in a special request to the foundation to help with the purchase of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and since the club is located in such a remote area, this was really a request that was very important for us to help them attain," said Vita Monteleone, director of community relations for the Lake Chelan Health & Wellness Foundation.
Several club members who regularly use the facility are active or retired firefighters, emergency medical technicians or paramedics. The club also plans to offer members training in CPR, automated external defibrillator use and first aid.
On behalf of the foundation, Board President Phyllis Gleasman and Vice President Linda Parker presented a $1,500 check to Dave Pletsch, the North Cascades Sportsman's Club's range safety officer, to support the purchase of the lifesaving equipment.
