CHELAN — Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday life, whether people realize it or not. From internet searches and email spam filters to customer service chatbots and smartphone features, AI tools are increasingly woven into the technology many people use every day.
A free Ruby U presentation on Thursday, June 11, will help community members better understand what artificial intelligence is, how it works and where they are likely to encounter it in daily life.
Jennifer Walker of NCW Tech Alliance will lead the beginner-friendly session, titled AI (Artificial Intelligence) 101, at the Ruby Theatre. The presentation is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of AI in plain language while encouraging curiosity, confidence and critical thinking.
For many adults who did not grow up with today’s digital technology, AI can feel confusing, intimidating or surrounded by hype. Public conversations about artificial intelligence often focus on concerns such as deepfakes, misinformation or AI-generated artwork, but the technology is also increasingly used behind the scenes in tools people already rely on every day. The class aims to move beyond headlines and misconceptions, offering a practical introduction to what AI is, what it can and cannot do, and how people can use it thoughtfully and safely.
As AI becomes more common in healthcare, banking, communication, education and entertainment, having a basic understanding of the technology can help people make informed decisions about how they use it.
The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Ruby Theatre, 135 E. Woodin Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
