Support for the preservation of the Chelan Butte

CHELAN - The mission of the Residents Coalition of Chelan County (RC3) is to “To work with residents to ensure that future growth and development in Chelan County preserves and enhances the qualities that residents value the most—rural character, a strong sense of community, and a healthy and beautiful natural environment.” In keeping with this mission, we strongly support the efforts by the Chelan Basin Conservancy (CBC) to preserve the undeveloped properties owned by Golden Gate Ventures (GGV) on the north face of the Chelan Butte in Chelan.
A developer from the west side of the state currently holds an option to purchase the GGV properties for development, including creating lots for both residential and tourist accommodations. This property has significant aesthetic and environmental value. Its development would greatly detract from the rural character, strong sense of community, and healthy and beautiful natural environment that we strive to maintain for all residents in the Lake Chelan Valley. At this crucial time when development of this land is being contemplated, but not yet finalized, we want to lend the support of our board, our membership, and any other resources we can bring to bear to the preservation of these lands to create open space for low-impact recreational use by both current and future generations.
