Posted

CHELAN - The Chelan VFW Post #6853 held an important community event on March 9, focusing on suicide prevention. Alyssa Warburton from the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) visited the post to share information and provide guidance on suicide prevention programs and techniques.

Suicide remains an ongoing struggle across communities, with Washington State's rates ranking above the national average. Too many individuals, including veterans and their families, grapple with unbearable pain and feelings of disconnection from society.

The WDVA's Suicide Prevention Program aims to improve self-efficacy and hope by fostering connection. With numerous resources available for Washington residents and families, the goal is to develop a robust support network to guide those in need sincerely.

The Chelan VFW Post expressed enthusiasm for the state's continued backing in combating self-harm. The Post Quartermaster lauded Warburton's extensive knowledge and genuine passion for helping individuals facing suicidal thoughts.

The event allowed community members to learn about available resources and gain techniques to prevent suicide. Through raising awareness and providing avenues for support, the VFW and WDVA hope to make a meaningful difference on this critical issue.
