Vivian Edwards named new Branch Librarian for Chelan and Manson Libraries

CHELAN — NCW Libraries has appointed Vivian Edwards as the new branch librarian overseeing both the Chelan and Manson Public Libraries.

Edwards began the role on July 1, stepping into a newly created position that combines leadership for the two branches, located eight miles apart. The change, according to NCW Libraries, reflects its ongoing effort to be good stewards of public funds while strengthening collaboration between closely connected communities.

The dual leadership position follows the retirements of longtime Manson Librarian Cindy Simmons, who served for 30 years, and Chelan Librarian Diedre Beltran, who retired earlier this summer.

Edwards joins the library system during a period of transformation. The Manson Library recently completed an interior renovation and reopened in early September with a design inspired by community input. The updated space was envisioned as a “community living room” — a flexible, comfortable place for learning and creativity. Meanwhile, the Chelan Library is preparing for a major refresh set to begin later this month.

Originally from Olympia, Edwards has lived throughout western Washington and holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Western Washington University and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Washington’s Information School.

“I was inspired to pursue a career in public libraries after working for an organization that supported youth experiencing housing insecurity,” Edwards said. “I loved working directly with the public – building relationships and connecting people with the resources they needed. With my love of reading, librarianship felt like a natural next step.”

She brings prior experience from both the Pierce County Library System and the King County Library System.

“I’m most looking forward to getting to know the unique personalities of Manson and Chelan as well as building lasting relationships with library patrons,” Edwards said. “It’s an honor to follow two librarians who made such a lasting impact and to help continue the tradition of community connection.”
