CHELAN - In a battle for first place in the Caribou Trail League, Chelan was able to take a one point lead at halftime 27-26 and showed tough defense all night holding the high flying Jackrabbits to a season low 57.
Specifically, Braiden Boyd was able to shut down the 6-6 Aidan Bews who was coming off a 50 point game vs. Royal in a previous game.  Bews finished with just nine points.
Coach Callero pointed out how pleased he  was with the defensive focus.
"Our focus on defense was great. We followed a game plan and took away all their best plays and shut down their top scorers."
What the Goats failed to do was keep track of substitute Dominic Trevino who came off the bench to hit five of six three point shots and scored a team high 16 points.
Chelan was led by the 20 points of Dylan Jay and Braiden Boyd added 11.
The two teams have split their two previous meetings. The top two teams from the CTL will play against each other for a District Championship on February 10 while the third and fourth place teams will face off in a loser out playoff game February 11.

Chelan 50, Tonasket 68

CHELAN - Chelan boys basketball lost a non league game on Saturday, January 14 to Tonasket 68-50.
One night after moving into first place in the Caribou Trail League by beating the #8 team in the state on the road, the Chelan Goats returned home and were looking to keep some momentum going against Tonasket and for one half it looked like Chelan would do just that.
Tonasket's leading scorer Tyler Duchow, a 6' 3" three-point shooting guard came into the game averaging 20 points and the defense of sophomore guard Jacob Allen held him to zero first half points. As a team, Chelan held Tonasket to 23 first half points.
Offensively Dylan Jay and Braiden Boyd combined for 19 of Chelan's 21 first half points and the Goats found themselves down two points.
The third quarter is when Duchow began to hit some shots as he scored nine points and Tonasket built a 14 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Chelan made a small run with three minutes to go and cut the lead to ten but Tonasket went 10-10 from the free throw line during the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Coach Callero pointed out that basketball is usually a game of runs and said, "unfortunately tonight during the third quarter Tonasket started to hit some shots at the same time we went cold. It was a a big hole to try to climb out of and we ran out of energy."
Dylan Jay led all scorers with 21 and Braiden Boyd finished with 20.

CHELAN - Tonight was a big matchup for both girls programs in Chelan. The last time the Jackrabbits were in Chelan they defeated the Mountain Goats in overtime by four. The Goats then traveled to Quincy in game two and defeated the Jackrabbits by 14. Tonight’s matchup decided who would potentially lock up the third place spot.
The Mountain Goats came out of the gate roaring tonight and took an early 12 point lead before the Jackrabbits started a scoring trend. The Goats put up 21 points in the first quarter but the Jackrabbits were able to finish strong themselves and scored 14.
In the second quarter the Goats held the Jackrabbits to 4 points while putting 9 up themselves bringing the halftime score to 30-18 in favor of the Goats.
The Goats knew that a 12 point lead could evaporate quickly with the outside shooting and inside threat of the Jackrabbits.
Unfortunately the Goats had a slow second half offensively but were able to rely on their defense in key situations. The Jackrabbits outscored the Goats 13-5 in the third quarter and 7-6 in the fourth and even took the lead by one at one point in the fourth quarter. The Goats were able to finish in front of the Jackrabbits 41-38.
The Goats were led by Senior Forward, Kira Sandoval with 11. Junior, Arabelle Finch added 10. Jailyn Reinhart had a pair of three point shots to contribute six. Hughbanks and Perez each had five and Joslynn Simmons had four on the night.

CHELAN- The Tonasket Tigers visited the Chelan Mountain Goats tonight in a non-league matchup in the Community Gym for retro night.
The game started out as a back and forth match and the Tigers only had the lead by 2, 15-13.
In the second quarter the Goats trailed by 5 after working against Tonaskets tough pressure as they went into the locker rooms.
The second half was a different story however as the Tigers took control of the game and began to pull away. The Goats trailed by 17 at the end of the third quarter and succumbed to the Tigers by a final score of 57-36.
The Goats were led in scoring by Kira Sandoval and Arabelle Finch who each had 13. Joslynn Simmons (3), Reinhart (3), Hughbanks (2), Jayci Simmons (2).
The Goat’s next match is against the Quincy Jackrabbits as they battle for the 3rd place spot in the league. That match will be held on Thursday, January 19th at home.
