At Easton, Saturday, April 21
This past weekend we had a different format for our track athletes. Not only did they wake up a little earlier than normal, about 4 am or so, to catch a bus at 5 am for a trip over the mountains to Snohomish for the Nike Eason Invite. We also didn’t take our normal amount of athletes. Most Saturday meets are two entries per event. At Snohomish it was by QUALIFYING marks, heights, distances, etc. That is why we only had 12 kids attend the meet. The athletes were as follows
Ava Dickes - 400,200 and 4x100
Molly Oswald - 100, 400, 4x100
Matea Ivory - 200, 4x100
Lucy Bordner - Triple Jump and 4x100
Maritza Blanco - Shot Put
Hailee Huddleston - Javelin
Ashlyn Sanderson - 1600 Meter Run
Ella Polley - 1600 Meter Run
Olivia Nygreen - 800, Discus
Emilie Barnes - 800
Bert Mendivil - Long and Triple Jump
Chris Knight - 3200 Meter Run
With a long morning and Seattle type weather, our athletes didn’t perform as well as they wanted too. But we did compete well and were able to face some very tough competition.
Molly Oswald started us off in the 400 meter dash with a Season Best of 1:04.42 and then she ran the 100 meter dash shortly afterwards. Her time of 13.78 was a little off from her season best.
Matea Ivory ran in prelims for the 200-meter dash. Her time of 28.16 slower than she ran last week but is looking forward to improving her time for next Saturdays meet.
Lucy Bordner was one of two jumpers for the CHS team and she performed well battling against some of the injuries from previous sports. She was jumping consistently in the 30 feet range for Triple Jump. She saved her best jump for last... jumping nearly 31 feet. Her jump of 30 ft 11.25 inches was super close to a Personal Best for her.
Ava Dickes also ran in the 200-meter prelims. She wasn’t able to break 27 seconds but came close with a time of 27.52. She battled back and ran in the finals for the girls 400-meter dash. Her time of 1:02.12 was able to place her 13th out 42 runners.
The same four girls competed in the girls 4x100 meter relay and placed 19th in a very competitive field. With continued work on hand offs and timing they look forward to faster times as they prepare for the end of the year.
Martiza Blanco, a new comer to track this year, was able to get her first experience of high level of competition. She came away with a best throw of 26 ft 6.75 inches and a better understanding of what it takes to compete at a high level.
Hailee Huddleston came away with a personal best of 83 ft 11 inches. She continues to improve every track meet getting further and further. She is looking to hit 90 feet plus next week.
Elly Polley and Ashlyn Sanderson were our 1600-meter runners this past weekend. Polley ran well against a loaded field with a time of 6:03.13 and Ashlyn came in with a time under 6 minutes. Her official time was 5:56.45 a season best.
Emilie Barnes ran the 800 meters and ran her best time this year. She came in with a 2:44.99.
Olivia Nygreen also ran the 800 and her time was 2:52.03 and she also threw the discus for us. Her best throw was 70 ft and 6 inches.
Bert Mendivil, one of our two boys to qualify, competed in the two Horizontal events; Long and Triple Jump. In the Long Jump, he was challenged and pushed. He was able to come away with a jump of 19 feet. Right around his best marks this year so far. He also came back to jump in the Triple Jump. He wasn’t able to near his best jump, but he was able to find some marks. He did scratch a good jump. He walked away with a best jump of 35 ft 9.25 inches.
Lastly, we had Chris Knight run our 3200-meter run. Coming off a Strong Cross Country Season, he was looking forward to tough field in the 3200. He was able to run near his personal best from last year. He came in with a time of 10:32.10. He is looking forward to competing in some upcoming meets against some good distance runners.
As you can read, we had some success in some areas, but not satisfied with the result. Our team walked away with perspective of what it takes to be good program. We look forward to a tough week of practice with some rest in between to help out our MS Program run their home meet.
Saturday, April 28th, we get to travel over the mountains again. Except this time, we will be heading over Snoqualime Pass rather than Stevens. We will be attending the 10th annual BCS meet at Interlake HS. Thank you again to the parents that made the trip over and we look forward closing out the month of April on a strong note.
At Tonasket, Tuesday, April 17
I want to first off say thank you to everyone who came up to Tonasket to root and cheer on our kids in what started out as an overcast day then slowly turned to a chilly night in Okanogan County.
We had one of our small track meets with 8 other schools in attendance. These types of meets allow our students to compete in multiple events and also travel around the NCW area. We had to get a second vehicle because we had some many kids traveling on our bus. This is a good problem to have for a Track Coach.
We had lots to be excited about. As we start gearing toward our League and District meets in May, we had a lot of kids in some marquee events.
We had a good performance from Bert Mendivil in the 100 and 200-meter dash. He ran a season best of 12.55 with lots of room to improve and followed up with a 25.71 in the 200 finishing 3rd overall. Kyle Jackson also ran in the 200 and placed 4th with a time of 25.94 with lots of room of improvement as well. We had a good showing from Chris Knight who ran a season best in the 1600-meter run. His time was 4:55.48 which placed him first in a field of 16 kids.
We performed better in our throws last night. We placed 3 Guys throwers in the top 5... Matt Smith, Hunter Logan and Alex Neri. Smith got 2nd with a throw of 36 ft 10 inches, Hunter placed 3rd with a throw of 34 ft 2 inches and Neri placed 5th with a throw of 33 feet and 5 inches.
We also had three throwers place in the top 5 for Discus and they all threw over 100 feet. A good sign for this point of the year. Alex Neri, Hunter Logan and Caden Bryant. Neri placed 2nd with a throw of 105 ft 5 inches, Logan placed 3rd with a throw of 100 ft 7 inches and Bryant placed 4th with a throw of 100 ft 4 inches.
We also had some good performances in the Boys Javelin. We had Rolando Viuerrta placed 4th with a throw of 119 feet and 7 inches and Matt Smith placed 7th with a throw of 111 ft and 3 inches.
Continuing some success in our Boys Field events were the following. Javier Pastor placed 2nd in the Pole Vault clearing 10 feet.
Bert winning the Triple Jump with a jump of 37 ft and 9 inches. He is looking to reach 40 feet by the end of the year. A new comer, Arnie Castrejon, triple jumping for the first time, jumped 31 ft and 9 inches finishing 4th overall.
On our girls’ side we had contined success from this past weekend’s track meets. Ava Dickes started up off with a victory in the 100-meter run. Her time was 13.16, a little off from last weekend. Matea Ivory and Molly Oswald followed up a strong trio performance placing 6th and 7th respectively. Ivorys time was 14.08 and Oswald came in at 14.18.
Ava Dickes performed something that most sprinters don’t do often. She not only ran the 200 and ran it well, she also participated in the 800 and won the race. Her time of 2:32.12 places her right in the top 5 in the CTL. She ran a season best in the 200-meter dash with 27.33 and barely losing to a Pateros athlete.
Rosa Lopez also stepped in to run the 200 for one of her teammates and placed well.  She finished 8th with a time of 30.83 seconds also after running the 800-meter run.
We had more strong performances from Matea Ivory and Molly Oswald. They each ran in the 400-meter dash and placing 2nd and 5th respectively. Oswalds time was 1:05.97 and Ivory came in at 1:10.04.
We had a number of girls compete in the 1600-meter run. Emilie Barnes, Ashlyn Sanderson, Geo Granados, Olivia Nygreen and Mieraya Garibay all ran well as individuals and also as a team. Geo placed 7th and her time was 6:41.32, Olivia Placed 5th with a time of 6:20.87, Barnes placed 4th with a time of 6:15.14 and Garibay placed 2nd with a time of 5:59.39. Nice job girls
Our team of Ava Dickes, Matea Ivory, Elly Collins and Molly Oswald placed first in the Girls 4x200. Their time of 1:51.19 is a good time with hand offs to work on.
Our girls 4x100 team also placed first - Lucy Bordner, Matea Ivory, Molly Oswald and Elly Collins also placed first... Their time of 53 seconds is a good time.
We had a number of kids across the board get some good marks and we are looking to take a small group to Snohomish for the NIKE Eason Invite. This meet not only do you have to be top two on your team for some events, but you also must meet specific standards for your event. We look forward to a good weekend for kids and also so much needed rest as well for some kids this weekend.

The Trojans welcomed the Eagles of Soap Lake to Singleton Park in Manson on Tuesday for a league single-header.  The prior meeting saw the Trojans take the victory 13-6.
Jose Pascasio was the starting pitcher and Caden Beazley was the starting catcher for the Trojans.
Pascasio had his best outing of the season and earned the complete game shutout win while pitching 7 innings, giving up 5 hits, walking 1, using 93 pitches, and striking out a whopping 13 Eagle batters.
Offensively, the Trojans put forth a team effort at the plate and the Trojans’ six hits were spread between six different players.  8th grader Conner Clausen continued his hot hitting streak and added two big RBI’s.  The Trojans recorded 8 runs on 6 hits. Trojans with hits were: Avery Thompson, Jose Pascasio, Parker Schoenwald, Marcus Bernardo, Conner Clausen, Zach Serafini.
Defensively the Trojans played with a renewed focused and determination. And although the Trojans committed three errors, the defense was resilient and held the Eagles scoreless.
The game’s web gem came in 5th inning when the Trojan center fielder Victor Calderon made an outstanding running catch that brought a great roar from the Trojan crowd.
