Tennis team poised for strong team with returning seniors

Posted

CHELAN - The weather might not be cooperating as of yet, but the Chelan High School tennis team is geared up for the season and eager to start their first set this Wednesday against Pateros.

“We’re going to have an amazing season,” head coach Marty Rothlisberger said. “We lost very few seniors, so we remain strong.”

Expectations are running high for the Goats as coach Rothlisberger expects everyone to have a good season.

“Our boys team has won the CTL three years in-a-row, and the girls teams can compete with anyone,” Rothlisberger stated emphatically. “We have strong players at every grade level.”

Standouts include Bryce Robison, Collin Hendricks, Henry Elsner, Rylan Anderson and Micah Larson, who all finished with 1st team honors last year. The rest of the boys varsity will be filled out by Wyatt Habich, Bradley Castro and Alex Gavin.

For the girls, “our varsity will start out as Sierra Rothlisberger, Madeline Peebles (both got 2nd team all league last year) Abby Martin, Nora Hollingsworth Elli Vegdahl-Crowell Sydney Hawkins, Emma McLaren and Sky Zelenko,” coach Rothlisberger stated.

Although the team looks strong, coach Rothlisberger expects the overall strength of the CTL to be the biggest challenge.

“There are probably more potential college tennis players in the CTL than there have ever been,” coach Rothlisberger insisted. “Every team we face will have at least one superstar.

The Goats get their season underway on Wednesday, March 15 when they take on Pateros - pending the weather - at Lake Chelan Shores at 4 p.m.
