Trojans close out season with two wins against Waterville

MANSON - There might not be any playoffs involved but the Manson Trojans baseball team closed out their season on a high note with two wins against Waterville on Senior Night on Tuesday, May 9.

Zach Serafini took the bump in the first game and pitched a gem as he threw the league limit 105 pitches in 6 and one-third innings, recording nine strikeouts while giving up 11 hits, seven runs and five walks.

Caleb Rossell came in relief and closed out the game with two strikeouts in 16 pitches.

Both teams has 12 hits in the game, but Manson was able to convert more on their chances as they only left three runners on base compared to nine for the Shockers. The offense was led by senior Bo Charlton and Jose Pascasio who both went three-for-three on the day.

In the back end of the doubleheader, Rossell remained on the hill and tossed 57 pitches over five and two-thirds innings, recording six strikeouts while giving up two hits, one run and one walk.

Carlton came in relief and used 23 pitches to get through one and a third innings. The Trojans all had two spectacular grabs in the outfield as Ethan Shoenwald robbed a home run at the fence in left field and Cody Fitzpatrick stole a double away on a liner to center.

Avery Thompson and Charlton carried the offense with the only Trojan hits in the game.

Overall, Manson ended the season with a rcord of 8-11, two wins ahead of last season, and a fifth place finish in league. Only the top four teams advance to playoffs.

“We would like to thank our seniors for their years of commitment and the great memories they leave with us and a special thank you to all our players and managers for an outstanding season,” head coach Bill Thompson said in his game report. “Thank you to our bat boys-Colby Schoenwald and Spencer Thompson, all of our parents, coaching staff-Brett La Mar and Travis Schoenwald, Athletic Director Eric Sivertson, scorebook keepers Bev La Mar and Hayli Thompson, and statistician Brett La Mar.”
