Chelan writer agrees with PUD help for low income column

Posted
Dear Editor,
Nice piece on the PUD helping low income customers for December (Lake Chelan Mirror, 12/30).
Actually I think you may see the District be responsive - in some form. In days gone past, Chelan PUD was a major contributor (employee donations via payroll deduction) to United Good Neighbors. And it seemed to me the District put up some matching money.
Even if the December assistance went out in March, it would still be meaningful.
I can think of arguments against such a proposal ... but generally ... with a will there’s a way. They could offer a $500 rebate to low income customers to send out a PUD energy efficiency expert to see if the expert could identify ways that the customer could reduce their bills year around. The customer would be ask to provide pay stubs for the last 90 days to qualify for the $500 rebate... and the District could set a limit of XXXXX customers  to be assisted before June of 2021 or until the budgeted XXXXX dollars were expended.
It’s about compassion surely. It’s about community... and in reality, it’s about good PR  for the District.
