Four Chelan High School students awarded $500 scholarships

CHELAN - The Chelan Earth Day Fair committee, in conjunction with the Lake Chelan Research Institute and a match from Sawtooth Geosciences, LLC, is funding $500 scholarships for four Chelan area high school students who have shown an interest in environmental science and engineering.  
Fair co-coordinator Anne Brooks says, “It feels so good to be able to offer scholarships to local students, and it’s great that they are students the Lake Chelan Research Institute works with.  We have wanted to do this for several years and it’s nice to be in a position of having those funds. We hope to continue each year.”
LCRI Student Researcher Scholarships in the amount of $500 are being awarded to:
Isabella Gatzemeier: Bella is a Chelan High School senior who will be attending University of Washington in the fall, majoring in Statistics or Data Science. She is working on plotting and interpreting data from LCRI’s multiparameter probe located at Sunset Marina.
Alejandro Hernandez: Alejandro is a Chelan High School senior who will be attending University of Washington in the fall, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is working on plotting and interpreting data from LCRI’s temperature loggers in 11 different tributaries flowing into Lake Chelan.
In addition to the Earth Day Fair scholarships, Sawtooth Geosciences, LLC is donating $500 to the Lake Chelan Research in order to support a third student:
David Payan: David is a Chelan High School junior who plans to major in Engineering at a university to be determined. He is working on plotting total coliform and E. Coli data from 4 locations on Lake Chelan.
Ian Blevins: The fair organizers earlier awarded a scholarship to longtime fair volunteer Ian Blevins who will be attending Gonzaga University this fall.
The Chelan Earth Day Fair committee looks forward to working with the Lake Chelan Research Institute in the future to help further local students’ education.
