Lake Chelan Rotary awards 11 students $32,000 in scholarships

CHELAN - For 11 local students, getting advanced schooling will be a bit easier thanks to the Lake Chelan Rotary Club. Numerous fundraising activities highlighted by the five event Cycle Chelan Bicycle Challenge allowed the club to award $32,000 in scholarships this year.
The recipients are heading for two and four year colleges as well as enrolling in Trades and specialty training programs.
“The application process is rigorous and clearly identifies students with promise.” said Mary Ann Warren, Scholarship Committee Chair.
Guy Evans, 2022-23 President for the local club, added “We are proud of our local students, and proud Rotary can be of service to them.”
Terrie Carleton, Scholarship Advisor for Chelan High School, introduced the young people at a recent Rotary luncheon meeting. She spoke to the importance of the scholarships beyond simply the financial support when she reported the students know, “You believe in them.”
The student scholarship winners, their fields of study, and their schools include:Charles Bordner, Construction Management, Boise State; April Crist, Welding Fabrication, Wenatchee Valley College; Itzel Martines-Bautista, Business/Marketing, University of Washington; Noemi Garcia-Rosas, Health Care, Washington State University; Fernanda Garcia, Hybrid EMT Course, Lifeline/Omak; Katie Gosvener, Business/Education, Gonzaga; Yuleymy Nunez, Pre-Health, University of Washington; Liam Ross, Commercial Pilot, Big Bend Community College; Lauren Soliday, Finance, Boise State; Alex Solorio, Law Enforcement, Wenatchee Valley College; and Ethan Strandberg, Automotive Technology, Wenatchee Valley College.
