MANSON — Manson School District has selected longtime educator Anita Johanson as the next principal of Manson Elementary School, with the appointment set to begin July 1 pending school board approval.
Johanson currently serves as a science and leadership teacher at Manson Middle School and has worked in several leadership roles within the district since joining Manson schools in 2018. District officials said she has helped lead student leadership and school culture efforts while supporting implementation of the district’s strategic plan and Leader in Me framework.
Superintendent Tabatha Mires praised Johanson’s leadership style, community connections and commitment to the district.
“Anita is a thoughtful, student-centered leader who understands our community, our values, and the work we are committed to through our strategic plan,” Mires said in a statement.
Johanson said she is excited to continue serving students and families in a new capacity.
“Manson is more than just a place I work,” Johanson said. “Manson is a community I care deeply about and have invested in.”
A National Board Certified Teacher, Johanson has also served the district as Summer School Director, After School Director, ASB Advisor and classroom teacher across multiple grade levels and subject areas. Before coming to Manson, she worked as a Federal and State Programs Director in Pateros and previously taught in Cascade School District.
Johanson will replace current elementary principal Ben Riippi, who will transition into the role of Manson Middle School principal and State and Federal Programs Director beginning July 1.
District officials said the selection process included interviews, leadership exercises, school tours and opportunities for feedback from staff, families and community members.
