Golf tournaments with good causes, May 19, 21

Posted

CHELAN - Golf season is finally upon us, which means tournaments will likely dominate the weekends on surrounding courses, and there are two tournaments with good causes coming up next week.

The first one is the Lake Chelan Lions Club 12th annual best-ball tournament, which is set to go off at Bear Mountain Ranch Golf Course on Friday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m. All of the proceeds will go toward the scholarships they award to students in the Chelan Valley each year.

Similar with other public tournaments, the day will be filled with much more than just a simple round of golf. In addition to 18 holes, two free drink tickets a lunch and sponsors at various holes the Lake  Chelan Lions Club is adding some pin prizes on holes around the course.

“We have a longest drive competition, a putting contest at the practice green before everyone tees off, and four hole-in-one opportunities on the par-3 holes,” Lake  Chelan  Lions Club member Jerry Bragg explained. “Sangster Motors is providing a new Buick as one of the hole-in-one rewards and the other three are different packages including a set of golf clubs, a golf getaway, and a golf attire shopping package that the insurance company provides.”

Once everyone comes in after their round, Bragg said one male and female will be selected to head back to the 165 yard 18th hole for an opportunity to make a hole-in-one for $100,000. After that, one individual will be randomly selected to try the same shot, but this time, for $1 million.

Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards is one of the prime sponsors of the tournament and will be providing wine for Closest to the Hole prizes and to those who win or place in the tournament.

Every golfer will also be given a goodie bag at the start of the tournament that includes a golf towel courtesy of Apple Cup Cafe, one sleeve of golf balls, a powerbar and other knick knacks.

Bragg revealed a couple former Seahawk players will compete in the tournament as well and that the registration has been extended through Tuesday, May 16 to get more golfers. You can sign up by registering online at lakechelanlionsgolf.golfregistrations.com/ng/index.cfm/b0295a8/regPages/pages/?p=b21294f6 or by sending in a check to the Lake Chelan Lions Club. The fee is $125 per player.

Coincidentally, on average the tournament draws around 125 golfers.

Players are allowed to use three mulligans each - excluded from par three holes - with the winning team having the lowest net score.

Bragg insisted the general winning score was a 61 or 62.

“We have always luck out and had beautiful weather, so I’m not telling you that we will have a gorgeous day, but usually it has been in the low 70’s.

1st Annual Mia Ledbetter Memorial Golf Tournament

On the Sunday, May 21 at Highlander Golf Course in East Wenatchee, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a 4-man scramble golf tournament in honor of Mia Ledbetter, a daughter of a fellow deputy who passed away on Feb. 29, 2016 after ailments with her heart and airway.

Her touching story can be found on miasmovingmountains.wordpress.com/about/

The $100 per player covers a round of golf with a cart, lunch and access to the driving range and putting green. All of the proceeds will go to the Mia Ledbetter Memorial Foundation which will benefit local families with sick children by assisting with their medical costs.

Just like the Lions tournament, there will be prizes, raffles and side games during the tournament as well.

You can register online on the “Events and Fundraisers” page at miasmovingmountains.wordpress.com/events/ or email miasmovingmountains@gmail.com. If you have questions you can reach Adam Musgrove at (360) 421-5125.
