Inland Empire Results
Overall I was very impressed with our entire team’s showing at the Inland Empire. Many teams played more than two matches and our team combined to win 12 matches. Additionally, our #1 boys doubles team placed in the consolation bracket and #2 singles Rex Torgesen placed fourth in the championship bracket. I think what’s really impressive is that our team did not back down from high levels of competition. When you look at the brackets, most of the schools are 3A and 4A. To be able to hang and defeat some of these larger programs is a testament to how quickly our team is learning and improving. I believe this tournament was a great primer for our league and district tournaments.

Boys #1 Doubles Cavan Willard/Ben Rasmusson 3rd Place Consolation Bracet
Rd 1 vs. Lakeland (#1 seed) 0-6, 2-6
Rd 1 Consolation vs. Medical Lake 6-2, 6-2
Rd 2 Consolation vs. Moscow 0-6, 7-6 (7-4),
Consolation Semifinals vs. Gonzaga Prep 6-4, 0-6, 6-10
Consolation 3rd/4th Match vs. Southridge 6-4, 6-1
After losing in the first round to the #1 seeded Lakeland doubles team, Willard and Rasmusson won their final two matches of the day including an impressive comeback win against Moscow after dropping the first set 0-6. Ben and Cavan are both young players who not only hung in with the bigger schools #1 doubles teams, but defeated many of them. In the third/fourth place match Cavan and Ben found a nice groove and played more relaxed. It was awesome to finish the day with a win and a third place finish in the consolation bracket.

Boys #2 Singles Rex Torgesen 4th Place Championship Bracket
Rd 1 vs. Prosser 6-1, 6-4
Rd 2 vs. Southridge 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-1
Quarterfinals vs. University 6-4, 6-3
Semifinals vs. West Valley (Yakima) 0-6, 0-6
3rd/4th Place Match vs. Richland 6-3, 4-6, 6-10
On day one Rex won all three of his matches to advance to the championship bracket semifinals. Most of his matches took a long time and he was the last match to finish the day in 75 plus degree weather. Rex has the ability to really wear down his opponent because he plays so consistently. On day two Rex had a tough match against West Valley and lost 0-6, 0-6 to the eventual runner-up in the tourney. His last match was a match mostly against the sun as both participants were exhausted. Rex won the first set and was up 4-3 in the second set, but he finally hit a wall. He dropped the second set and lost in a tiebreaker 6-10. We are very proud of how hard Rex played all tournament long.
