The Community Center at Lake Chelan receives federal direct spending award

Posted

CHELAN – The Seven Acres Foundation, developers of the upcoming Community Center at Lake Chelan (CCLC), was recently named the recipient of a Federal Direct Spending Award. This award comes in the form of $900,000 for the ongoing development of the Community Center at Lake Chelan to assist with the costs of building, future jobs, and overall completion.
Through what is known as Congressionally Directed Spending, Senator Patty Murray secured financial assistance for this development by advocating for the funding of local projects in central Washington. Representatives of The Seven Acres Foundation met with Congressional representatives who listened to the goals and vision of The Community Center and decided that the project was essential to the Chelan Valley, particularly to serve families, youth, and the underserved.
The Community Center at Lake Chelan will be focused on five core values: wellness, relationships, compassion, service, and connection. A significant goal of this project is to create a hub of connection for people and resources where youth and families can obtain physical, mental, and emotional support needed to thrive. It is for reasons like this that funding was granted.
Several notable non-profits will also participate. The Brave Warrior Project, an organization helping children and families of special needs children and kids with developmental disabilities or serious illness will utilize the space for their programs. Only7Seconds, a body of people with the goal to end loneliness by creating a unique sense of community for youth in the valley and beyond will also operate out of the facility. The Community Center will be a support for the area's non-profits and the people they serve, with a particular emphasis on the underserved.
The Seven Acres Foundation still is fundraising for the Community Center at Lake Chelan due to unprecedented increases in construction costs. Land acquisition, architectural planning and engineering are complete and most of the concrete has now been poured.
As building costs have soared nationally, an award like this is an appreciative gain for the Lake Chelan Valley. With this award, the Community Center at Lake Chelan is on its way to becoming the Valley's latest and greatest addition with a goal to be completed in January of 2023.
