Memorial Day Parade, activities, May 26-May 30

CHELAN - Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2022 will occur on Monday, May 30. 

Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in local parades.

Memorial Day Parade: May 26

CHELAN — The Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce presents the 25th annual Memorial Day Parade on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. Hosted by the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce on the Thursday before Memorial Day, we honor soldiers, police officers and firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who have served and are currently serving our country. Before the parade, members of service, veterans and their families are invited to enjoy dinner donated by The Meat Shop at the Veterans Appreciation Social at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce. Community members are invited to help us honor those who are in service or have been in service by showing your support at the parade or participating in the parade. May 27-30

• Friday, May 27, 9 to noon, get your Memorial Day Poppy to wear proudly at the Chelan Post Office and Safeway.

• Saturday, May 28 thru Monday, May 30 see the flags at Chelan Fraternal and Riverview Cemeteries, placed on the graves of servicemen and women. VFW Post #6853 and American Legion Post #108 members will put the flags out on veterans graves starting at 9 a.m. on May 28. They will pickup the flags on Tuesday,  May 31.

• Monday, May 30 at 10 a.m., join Lake Chelan VFW Post #6853 at Chelan Riverwalk Park flagpole for the annual Memorial Celebration. The Lake Chelan Patriotic Singers will be in attendance.

• Monday, May 30 at 11-11:30 a.m., at the American Legion Park, across from the Manson Business Center, American Legion Post #108 will hold their Memorial Day Celebration. Join members from the Manson American Legion as they celebrate Memorial Day 2022. Flags will be presented and two students from Manson High School will play Taps. Commander Clyde McCullough will open the celebration. Their  guest speaker will be Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett. The Lake Chelan Patriotic Singers will lead everyone in a couple songs. Flags will be retired and the celebration will end. Please make an effort to show your support for all United States service personnel that paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep you free.
