Harv Holling

Harv Holling was born on January 17, 1940 to Harry and Clara Holling.  During his time in Manson, he was into fast cars, he worked as a baker at the Judy Jane Bakery, excelled at sports, and the list can go on and on.

Manson Trojans were state football champions in ‘58 and ‘59.  Also, he held the state record for the mile for 8 years.  In addition, he was a natural bowler.  His first game he ever bowled was a 203 and he rolled a 300 a perfect game.  Another sport that came easy to him was the game of golf.  He used to play with professionals and U.S. Senator’s at the Chelan course.  After high school he attended Wenatchee Valley College for one year studying Business.

Then he was drafted into the Army and went to Korea.  The war was over but the tensions were still high.  Bob Hope came to visit with his USO tour and dad was back stage standing watch and got to meet a lot of big name stars.  He thought that was the highlight of his time in Korea until he met his forever wife Min Sun.  They got married in South Korea in 1966 and she came to America to start their lives together.

When his dad and mom died they left him a good inheritance and he bought an orchard overlooking Lake Chelan.  He was a very generous man and loaned anyone who needed money or his time.  They had a son in the winter of ‘68 and the family was coming together.  God gave him such a loving, forgiving and kind spirit which guided him the rest of his life.  Never letting a setback bring him down he moved forward with his life.  In 1970 they had a daughter her name was Angie.  She had some medical issues when she was born but dad knew everything was going to be just fine and was a rock for the family.  He had a variety of jobs and can learn anything with simple observation and could memorize numbers like no one else.

Then in 1985 tragedy struck again with the passing of Angie his first daughter.  Dad knew he needed to be strong and two weeks before Angie passed mom was pregnant with Michelle.  This blessing was to let dad know that God was still watching over him.  Michelle was born in 1986 the same year that he watched his son enlist in the Coast Guard.

He coached baseball and was an umpire.  He was the leader of the chain gang for high school football games for 30 years which he was recognized for at a Washington State Athletics dinner, and was presented a plaque and the admiration of all who attended.  He was a long time bowler and was elected into the Hall of Fame and was a long time President.

Another one of his favorite places was the Eagles.  He was a long time member, President and elected to the Hall of Fame.  He worked for the golf course bringing his dedication to a job well done, exceptional work ethic and green thumb to the course.  The first year he was there, a lot of golfers commented on how great the course looked, and it stayed that way until he departed and started work at the Chelan Airport.  Everyone at the airport loved the way he did his job and would do anything for him.  Dad loved flying and the patrons there would give my dad rides in their airplanes and let him take the stick.  He was in heaven every time he flew.

He also liked to play the slots, eat good food and boy did he love his desserts and sweets.  His accomplishments are amazing but his absolute love for his family can never be rivaled.  He was the greatest father, husband, grandpa and friend anyone could ever have.  He was loyal to a fault and highly principled in his actions and we strongly believed why he was the most respected man in Chelan.

We want to leave you with one of dad’s favorite quotes; he always used to say jokingly, “thank God I am not as old as you” and if you knew dad/grandpa, he was the most in shape person we know.  He always looked way younger than his age and we always thought he would out live us all.  He lived life to the absolute and never let life dictate what he was going to do.

So, we want to leave you with this because if dad/grandpa was here he would want you to live life your to the fullest.  Furthermore, never let any situation rob you of your joy and most importantly to look to the future by living in the present.  Please love and honor all people you meet because they are the ones that will bring you the most happiness and that will lead you to an abundantly blessed life.   Lastly, just remember you can talk to me anytime.  I promise I will listen intently and hope the way I lived will aid you in finding your answers.

He is proceeded in death by his Dad, Mom, Gary, Wayne and Angie.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years Min Sun, son Paul, daughter Michelle, daughter in-law Dawn Marie, future son in-law Virgil, grandson Nathanial, grandson Liam, granddaughter Camille and all his family and friends from America to South Korea.

This is Harv Holling signing off wishing you all the best and have a most wonderful life!
