Kenneth B. Tews

Kenneth B. Tews, a tough Marine passed away at the age of 98, on April 22, 2021, after a courageous four year battle with prostate cancer. He was born October 28,1922 at Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, to Ed and Orla Tews.  They owned a large farm, where his father passed away from a farm accident, when Ken was 13 years of age.  His mother being from Chelan, moved Ken and his two sisters, Edith, and Letty to Chelan.in 1935.    

Ken graduated from Chelan High School in 1941 and in 1944 enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he saw action in the Pacific and the occupation of Japan.   In 1946 Corporal Tews was honorably discharged and returned to Chelan and worked building houses.
In 1947 he married the love of his life, Marlus Blake and had three children.   He worked in the commercial tire business for Faris Tires.   He was also very active in the Chelan V.F.W., as past commander and member of Eagles and Elks.  Ken’s passion was golf and he enjoyed playing, for many years.   He won the Lake Chelan golf championship in 1963 and 1965.
In 1966 Ken opened a tire store in O†mak for Mac’s tire and continued to work in tire business in Seattle, Spokane.  After that he started is own company Alert T & B until his retirement.
He became wife Marlus caregiver during her decline in her health.  She passed away in 1997, after 50 years of marriage.
He moved to Seattle area 10 years ago to be close to family. And for the past four years lived at Sunset Home Care in Renton.    
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, sister Edith (Tews) Ballard, and Letty Tews.   
He is survived by his sons Duane Tews, Newcastle; Mike Tews, Chelan; and daughter Terry Tews, Liberty Lake.  Also, five grandchildren, Michael Tews, Mandy Tews-Gallanar, Adrienne Tews, Lyndsey Tews, Danielle Tews, and five great-grandchildren.  He has one niece Virginia Leland, Seattle.
The family would like to thank the VA Hospital and Franciscan Hospice. for the care and treatment. Also, Mike and Sara of Sunset Home care for their loving care of our father.
 Ken’s internment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington, later this year, and will be joining  his Marine brothers.
